Hundreds of children took advantage of the warm, sunny weather to attend the Canfield Dairy Queen’s annual Easter Egg Hunt March 30.

With thousands of plastic eggs and several varieties of candy hidden in straw strewn around the Green, the children waited anxiously to pick up as much as they could.

“This is the largest crowd we have ever had. Obviously, the weather was a factor and we couldn’t be happier about it,” said Ron Rapp, Canfield Dairy Queen owner.

The plastic eggs were filled with candy, coupons for Dairy Queen treats or raffle tickets, which qualified lucky children for the grand prizes.

To make it fair, and to break up the crowd a bit, a section was set aside for children 4 and under. The other section was for children 5 and up.

Pastor Jill Barton, children’s pastor at Rush Church, emceed the event, including welcoming everyone and calling the winning numbers of the raffle tickets. The prizes included gift certificates for boxes of Dilly Bars, ice cream sandwiches and DQ cakes and also Easter baskets filled with toys.

Dairy Queen staffers and volunteers from Rush Church worked together to put on the annual event.

According to Rapp, at the end of the hunt, the straw was cleaned up and sent back to the farmer who donated it for the event.
