Hilltop Elementary School Principal Cathy Mowry hosted a breakfast May 25 to express her appreciation to the school’s numerous PTO volunteers who helped with various activities throughout the school year.
“I truly believe the parents make our school. They are the heart of our school. You should hear how your children talk about you. They get so excited when you come to school and volunteer,” Mowry told the group.
The volunteers were treated to a breakfast of fresh fruit, muffins, bagels, juices and coffee. They also feasted on a cake that read ‘Hilltop Elementary School – The Best!’
Mowry thanked the volunteers personally and handed out thank-you gifts and cards.
“We so appreciate you. You bring joy to our hearts and joy to this building. From the bottom of our hearts, we say thank you,” Mowry said.
The money the PTO has raised throughout the year was used for technology in the classrooms.
“We have the most innovative technology in our classrooms,” Mowry said.
Mowry asked the PTO volunteers to express what they like about volunteering at Hilltop and received a variety of answers.
“Volunteering makes me feel special and makes my child feel special,” said one guest.
Another stated, “Our PTO is the most awesome group. We get to serve the children and the community at the same time.”
“I have made wonderful friends through PTO,” said PTO Chair Amy Kinkade.
All agreed volunteering is fun, rewarding, awesome, worthwhile, fulfilling, a great way to meet the students and be a part of the Hilltop community and that Canfield Schools are great.
To end the breakfast, Mowry addressed the volunteers one last time.
“Sometimes people come into your life and you are glad to meet them. I do believe the parents here at Hilltop are those people. Then they move on, but their handprint is on your heart and they become part of your memories,” Mowry said.
